Parent-teacher night at the Noordman School in Amsterdam Geuzenveld-Slotermeer.
At the Noordman School in Amsterdam Geuzenveld-Slotermeer a high percentage of the parents either don't speak Dutch and/or are illiterate. For years it was difficult to get the parents to attend the parent-teacher nights. The school hired translators for the events, Turkish, Kurdish, Moroccan, but still, no one came. When someone became enlightened and changed the context of the parent-teacher night to a pot-luck dinner, suddenly all of the parents showed. Finally there a platform where everyone could show up with their area of expertise. The parent-teacher nights at the Noordman School are exuberant and extremely festive.
