Someone suggested that as a starting point, one of the paintings that I have worked on before (such as Las Meninas, that Foucault also wrote about), where the mediated gaze is at core, and draws us into the painting, by means of reflections, mirrors, a painting within the painting, several on-lookers etc – In short, this is all about light – and how we negotiate our positions as viewers or active spectators in relation to the art work. One could recreate the space of Las Meninas, in real and virtual space, thus creating a shared negotiation space, where we monitor the mediated gaze, and therefore, ourselves as witnesses of, or partaking in the event.
LIGHT IN MEDIATING PRESENCE
I got inspired by some people raising the idea of continued research devoted to light and lighting in relation to mediating presence.
