PRINCE2 was originally developed in 1989 by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) as a UK Government standard for information technology project management. PRINCE2, Projects IN Controlled Environments, was released as a genuine project management method in 1996 and has been widely used since then in over 50 countries (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince2).
